Chapters List
Chapter 1 – The Ever-Evolving World of Science
Grade 7 Science invites you to explore, question, and experiment. From materials and life processes to light, time, and the universe, every discovery begins with curiosity.
Chapter 2 – Exploring Substances: Acidic, Basic, and Neutral
This chapter explores substances as acidic, basic, or neutral using natural and synthetic indicators. Experiments with litmus, turmeric, and flower extracts show how acids and bases react and how neutralisation helps in everyday life.
Chapter 3 – Electricity: Circuits and their Components
This chapter explores how electricity is generated, conducted, and used in daily life. Students learn about electric cells, batteries, lamps, switches, circuits, conductors, and insulators through simple experiments and activities.
Chapter 4 – The World of Metals and Non-metals
Metals and non-metals differ in their properties. Metals are generally shiny, malleable, ductile, and good conductors of heat and electricity, while non-metals are dull, brittle, and poor conductors. Both have essential uses in daily life and technology.
Chapter 5 – Changes Around Us: Physical and Chemical
Changes around us can be physical or chemical. Physical changes alter the appearance or state of a substance without forming a new substance, while chemical changes produce new substances, often with heat, light, or gas. Some changes are reversible, some are not, and they can be desirable or undesirable.
Chapter 6 – Adolescence: A Stage of Growth and Change
Adolescence is the transition from childhood to adulthood, usually between 10–19 years, marked by physical, emotional, and behavioural changes. Puberty brings secondary sexual characteristics and reproductive maturity. Healthy habits, hygiene, nutrition, physical activity, and avoiding harmful substances help adolescents grow well.
Chapter 7 – Heat Transfer in Nature
Heat in nature is transferred through conduction, convection, and radiation. Solids mainly transfer heat by conduction, while liquids and gases transfer it by convection. Radiation transfers heat without a medium. The water cycle and groundwater infiltration help in conserving and redistributing water on Earth.
Chapter 8 – Measurement of Time and Motion
Time is measured using repeating processes, like pendulums or clocks. Speed tells how fast an object moves, and motion along a straight line can be uniform (constant speed) or non-uniform (changing speed).
Chapter 9 – Life Processes in Animals
Life processes like nutrition, respiration, and circulation are essential for survival. Animals have adapted different digestive and breathing systems to suit their habitats. Nutrients and oxygen are transported throughout the body to release energy and sustain life.
Chapter 10 – Life Processes in Plants
Plants need sunlight, water, carbon dioxide, and minerals to grow. They produce food through photosynthesis in their leaves and transport it via phloem, while water and minerals move through xylem. Plants also respire to release energy.
Chapter 11 – Light: Shadows and Reflections
Light travels in straight lines and interacts differently with materials—transparent, translucent, or opaque. Shadows are formed when light is blocked, and mirrors reflect light to form images. A pinhole camera produces inverted images, while plane mirrors produce erect but laterally inverted images.
Chapter 12 – Earth, Moon, and the Sun
The Earth rotates on its axis causing day and night and appears to move the Sun, Moon, and stars. It revolves around the Sun in a tilted orbit, creating seasons. Solar and lunar eclipses occur when the Sun or Moon is blocked by the Moon or Earth.
