Chapter 1 – Development

Development means improving people’s lives, not just increasing income. It includes health, education, equality, and sustainability. Different people and countries have different goals, and progress should benefit all without harming resources or future generations.

Chapter 2 – Sectors Of The Indian Economy

Economic activities are classified into three sectors: primary (agriculture and natural resources), secondary (manufacturing), and tertiary (services). In India, most production now comes from the tertiary sector, but employment remains highest in the primary sector. Activities are also divided into organised and unorganised, and into public and private sectors, highlighting the need for protection and support for workers, especially in unorganised areas.

Chapter 3 – Money And Credit

Money acts as a medium of exchange, making trade easier by avoiding direct barter. Modern forms include currency and bank deposits, which enable cashless transactions like cheques. Banks use deposits to provide loans, supporting economic activities. Credit can help increase income but may also create debt traps, especially for the poor, highlighting the need for accessible formal loans and self-help groups.

Chapter 4 – Globalisation And The Indian Economy

Globalisation is the rapid integration of countries through trade, investment, and technology. MNCs play a major role, creating opportunities for skilled and wealthy producers while posing challenges for small producers and workers. Fair globalisation requires government support and protection for all.

Chapter 5 – Consumer Rights

The consumer movement in India protects people from unfair trade practices and ensures their rights. Through laws like COPRA and consumer forums, individuals can seek compensation for defective goods or deficient services. Awareness, legal action, and active participation help consumers make informed choices and demand justice.
