Global interconnectedness has a long history, from ancient trade routes like the Silk Routes to the spread of crops,
ideas, and diseases. European expansion, colonialism, and the rise of industrial economies in the 19th century reshaped global trade,
migration, and labour systems, including indentured servitude from India.
The World Wars and the Great Depression disrupted global economies, leading to new systems like the
Bretton Woods institutions to stabilize trade and employment. Post-1950s, decolonisation and the rise of multinational
corporations marked the beginnings of modern globalisation,
though inequalities persisted between developed and developing nations.
